Naomi Lebens

A collaborative project between the British Museum and The Courtauld Institute of Art led to Naomi Lebens being awarded her PhD in 2016. Titled Prints in play: Printed games and the fashioning of social roles in Early Modern Europe, her thesis considered why games inspired such invention in early modern print. Alongside map games, case studies included the playing-cards of Stefano della Bella (1610-1664) and games in the oeuvre of the prolific Bolognese artist, Giuseppe Maria Mitelli (1634-1718). She holds the position of Curator of Art Collections at the University of Reading.
