Roberto Balzani (Forli, 1961) is Professor of Contemporary History in the Department of History, Cultures and Civilizations at the University of Bologna. After graduating in 1985 (Department of Political Science, University of Florence), he was a scholarship recipient at the EUI (1986-1989) and then, beginning in 1992, a researcher in Contemporary History at the Department of Political Science in Florence. Since moving to Bologna, he has worked at the Department of Humanities since 1995, then at the Department of Cultural Heritage Preservation (including as Dean from 2008-2009), and since then he has continued his activities in the Department of History, Cultures and Civilizations (2014-present). He is a board member of Il Risorgimento and Rassegna Storica del Risorgimento. He also runs the Museums of Bologna University (2015-present) and the Archives of Bologna University. He served as President of the Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Emilia-Romagna Region (2017-2020) and is also a member of the ANVUR Commission on VQR Third Mission, 2015-2019 (2020-present).
