Philip Cottrell is a lecturer at University College Dublin. A specialist in Venetian Renaissance painting, his work has featured in several international exhibition catalogues and in prominent art historical journals such as Art Bulletin and The Burlington Magazine. Alongside Peter Humfrey, he is the co-author of a forthcoming monograph on the painter Bonifacio de’ Pitati. He has also published essays on Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio and his followers, John Donne, and nineteenth-century art collecting in Britain and America. He recently completed a major digital humanities project, ‘The Sir George Scharf Sketchbooks’, in collaboration with the National Portrait Gallery, London.
