Jiří Hanuš

Jiří Hanuš is professor of General history at the Department of History at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University. His professional field of interest involves the history of church and culture of the 1800s and 1900s and the lives of prominent Christian personalities of modern Czech history. His scholarly publications and textbooks are frequently co-authored by Brno political scientists (Petr Fiala, Stanislav Balík, Vít Hloušek); his focus also involves political anthropology and the importance of institutions, particularly universities (two scholarly publications on the history of Masaryk University, co-authored by the historian Lukáš Fasora). For more than 30 years, he has also worked as an editor and been engaged as an opinion journalist with the Brno culture magazine Kontexty. His latest publication to date is a biography of Rio Preisner, a Germanist and philosopher Rio Preisner: Portrét konzervativního myslitele [Rio Preisner: A Portrait of a Conservative Thinker] (2020).
