Ettore Morelli is Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of History of the University of Basel. He holds a PhD in History from the School of Oriental and African Studies and had Postdoctoral positions at the University of Cape Town, the University of Pavia, and the African Studies Centre in Leiden. His main research topic is the history of central southern Africa in the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries, with a particular attention on how power and time are treated by African authors and sources. He has published about slavery in precolonial southern Africa on the Journal of African History and Slavery & Abolition. He is a researcher in the PRIN Genealogies of African Freedoms, Università di Pavia, and editor and contributor in the digital humanities project Five Hundred Year Archive (FHYA), University of Cape Town.
