Tanja Michalsky

Tanja Michalsky is director at the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max-Planck-Institute for Art History in Rome since 2014. In her research department Cities and Spaces in Premodernity, she focuses on the understanding of historical spaces through a critical reflection on media. The department’s focus on southern Italy, especially Naples, covers the historical spectrum from the pre-modern to the present, the latter being especially well represented for discussions on urbanism and film. She is author of the book Memoria und Repräsentation. Die Grabmäler des Königshauses Anjou in Italien, Göttingen 2000, in which she investigates the connection between political and social memoria within the funerary iconography of the Anjou dynasty as a beata stirps.
