The representativeness of citizens’ organizations between official
declarations and hidden criteria
The issue of «representativeness» of citizens’ organizations to be involved in
participatory processes by public institutions is one of the most important and
concerning nowadays. To shed light on this issue, a recent research of Active Citizenship
Network has gathered and analyzed the criteria defined and those actually
used by public institutions at national, European and international level, as well
as the comments and proposals of 30 citizens’ organizations involved in the project.
A general typology of these criteria and the proposal of a new framework to
identify the relevance of citizens’ organizations are the main results of the project.
