in generale.
Dating the cultural references that form the intertextual complex
plan of Hier. Epist. 54, 9, 5, as well as its glossographic contour
and its medieval Forleben, the A. shows the presence in
Jerome of a particular meaning of comicus and comoedia – that is
in Jerome but also in other contexts –, that was never exhibited befor
from textual criticism: a probable assimilation between the finality
of comicus, as in Terence, and the finality of Homer. Infact,
they both would aimed with their works to know and describere
people and his mores. Hence, the A. deduces from it a hypotesis
concerning the Commedia’s intitulatio, that agrees with Barański’s
theory in the idea that for Dante the concept of the word comoedia
must be the equivalent of literature in general.
