Il tardo romanzo arturiano in versi del secolo XIII viene spesso letto e considerato come la demitizzazione, condotta con ironia e finanche con sarcasmo, degli ideali cortesi che la letteratura narrativa francese del secolo XII aveva creato e diffuso. Pur se una tale prospettiva d’interpretazione non deve né può essere rifiutata, tuttavia quest’ultima non esaurisce tutto il significato di questo (sotto)genere narrativo: vengono qui presi in esame la Vengeance Raguidel e l’Atre Périlleux.

The late Arthurian verse romance of the thirteenth century is often thought to demythologize, in an ironic and even sarcastic key, the courtly ideals that French narrative literature of the twelfth century had created and spread. Even if this interpretation cannot be entirely rejected, it does not exhaust the full meaning of this narrative genre. The Vengeance Raguidel and the Atre Périlleux are examined here.
